dc.description.abstractAlma Joseph Lee Shippy enrolled at Warren Wilson College in 1952, two years before Brown v. Board of Education, the United States Supreme Court ruling that racial segregation in schools is unconstitutional. By a vote of 54 to 1, the boys of Sunderland Hall welcomed Shippy "on the same basis as any other boy in any activity or work crew on which boys participated.”en_US
